Meet Dr. Loni

The rest of the (stress) story

I did not always know that I would be a chiropractor. In fact, I didn’t know what chiropractic was until my teenage years.

I grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin with a loving family. Beginning around age 12 I struggled with anxiety and depression on and off for years, and I was so inexplicably worried and introspective I could not decide what I would do with my life now, let alone in the future. My mind felt like a running hamster wheel, I didn’t sleep well, and I always felt tense. I was ill a lot of the time, often with sinus infection and ear infections. It seemed that many people I knew were stressed out to the point of exhaustion like this at some level, so I thought it was “normal” and just lived with it.

I first visited a chiropractor by chance at age 16 when I accompanied my mother to her chiropractic appointment. The chiropractor offered to check my spine too, discovered a misalignment in my neck, and corrected it with an adjustment. Little did I know, this would change my life forever.

(Of course, at the time, I shrugged it off as no big deal with all the wisdom of a teenager.)

Unknown to me at the time, the nerves traveling from my brain to my body had been irritated by that slight misalignment in my neck. Although I didn’t feel pain, the irritation caused nerve interference- there was a disconnect in how my brain processed and handled stress, and it was affecting my tense and tired-out body- already at age 16! On the flip side, my body was sending cries for help to my overloaded brain, but the cries were silenced by the nerve interference. I learned this overwhelming stress response that I felt might be common, but it was NOT “normal”.

After that first adjustment, I began sleeping better at night. I didn’t realize the connection to chiropractic at first, but after a few more visits with adjustments, I found I could think more clearly and my stress didn’t seem so overwhelming anymore. I discovered how my body was made to heal itself and release stress naturally on its own. I am inspired to help others discover how chiropractic can help balance their stress to live a productive, joyful, and truly fulfilled life.

I am a Board-Certified Chiropractic Physician with a Certificate of Attainment from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. I earned my doctorate degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I specialize in stress-release and the mind-body connection.

I love helping patients of all ages break free naturally from the mental and physical aspects of stress. Outside of practice I enjoy bicycling, baking, and hiking trips with my husband, Justin, and our rescue pup, Dallie.
